Project Description
The District needed an early childhood center addition, middle school renovations, and wanted an new identity for all the entrances. As a new visitor to the school, it was hard for people to know where the entrances were. New facades were added to the elementary and middle school while making smaller canopies for the high school and district office to tie the whole district together. This greatly improved the wayfinding around the school campus.
The 13,000sf addition onto the elementary houses the preschool and after school programs for the school district. The main entrance leads directly into a new administration space with a large lobby leading to classroom spaces, which include a classroom dedicated to after school program (Y-Kids), a half day preschool classroom, 2 full day preschool classrooms and an early childhood special education classroom with a sensory room.
The Middle School renovation was 14,500 sf of library & office space that was renovated into lobby, commons, maker space, media, concessions and 21st century learning classrooms. The District wanted this space to be fun, engaging and very flexible. Depending on the time of day this space was going to have many different purposes.
The elementary school and middle school had very little school spirit so that was a focus for the design team; both on the exterior and interior. The District wanted high visibility, red lights, and school pride. The school colors were brought in throughout the spaces.
