Project Description

The Park Inn Hotel and City National Bank Building is Wright’s only non-residential design in Iowa. When commissioned at the turn of the century, the property included a hotel with 41 guest rooms, offices for prominent attorneys and a new home for a local bank. It was originally completed in 1910. The farm crisis of the 1920's brought change, and the bank closed and was redeveloped into commercial space. This was the beginning of drastic alterations to the original design. The building was occupied and remodeled by dozens of commercial and residential entities and eventually deteriorated over time due to lack of maintenance. Fast forward to the twenty first century, when local citizens realized the architectural treasure hiding in plain sight. After a restoration effort spanning twelve years and costing $18 million dollars, the hotel was rehabilitated to include 27 historically inspired guest rooms, 8,000 sf of conference space, various lounge areas, and a restaurant.
