East Sac County Community School District

FEH DESIGN

Recognitions: K-12 Projects 2022

Project Description

The East Sac County CSD hired FEH Design to help master plan the whole district from four buildings down to two. After a comprehensive master-planning study of many options, it was determined that the high school needed seven classrooms, a kitchen, and a commons addition. This allowed the district to bring more grades to this school building making it a junior high and high school building. This also moved classes out of the original early 1900s building at the high school that has accessibility issues. The next steps for the district will be to remove this portion of the building. The site presented many challenges as it had major elevation differences between the two buildable sides of the school. Major site changes had to happen to solve site circulation and accessibility. Removing the hill on the west side of the school allowed us to make the addition level with the existing school. The parking lot on this side was also sloped shallower so that ADA parking stalls could be added where the game entrance is. An elevator was added in the addition for all students to reach both levels of the school. The buildings exterior design brought in different elements of the existing school, but the district wanted to create an identity for the school. Adding the school colors and logo to the exterior of the building helps people passing by easily recognize who they are.
